What you’ll do

Oddschecker are looking for an experienced, motivated and proactive Technical Product Owner, taking ownership of our Core strategic roadmap and working with relevant teams to drive this forward and get the most from our internal API services, feeds and partner integrations

We need a product evangelist who has experienced the ups and downs of product delivery and has worked in a technically driven environment; delivering performant, reliable and quality services, applications and products.

You’ll be comfortable and knowledgeable with agile and scrum, and have worked with development teams of different disciplines while driving a technical strategic roadmap. You’ll work closely with the Head of Product to create and deliver a roadmap which supports the core business goals, while also identifying opportunities to innovate and improve on the current status quo. You’ll ensure delivery of your roadmap, and work closely with your team to instil a sense of ownership and responsibility in what they deliver. You’ll have a passion for getting the most out of your applications, services and products through solid stakeholder management and strong technical foundations.

You should have a product and technical background, and have experience of working closely with development teams, most likely backend. You should also have experience of defining and owning and technical driven roadmap that supports the business and customer goals.

You should be a strong communicator, able to present your vision to your team and the wider business, while also willing to challenge and innovate on the current landscape. This should be coupled with an ability to deliver of key product and business goals.

Key responsibilities

At Oddschecker, as we focus on growing our ability to operate at scale though multiple products, our ability to service these products with prices, data, and capabilities in a performant manner becomes increasingly important. The customer experience of these products, made possible by the services which underpin them, defines their success in market. You will take ownership of defining these services which enable our push toward world class customer experiences. You’ll be working closely with both developers and business leaders, to bring a new level of quality and capability to our products.

You’ll be at the intersection of most product teams, working closely with them to understand how your teams can enable and support their goals, while also driving real innovation in the way we operate.

As a core member of the team you’ll be required to:

  • Work closely with other members of the Product team; Head of Product, business leaders and technical leads to define a strategic roadmap for the Core squad.
  • Build a deep understanding of our partners/customers and their needs, while remaining at the forefront of current and emerging technologies.
  • Responsible for the management of internal and external API development. Able to understand API specifications and work with third party technical teams to enhance its capabilities
  • Be involved in small to large-scale technical projects, working closely with the wider business to understand and input on the goals.
  • Ownership of the technical integration layer between Oddscheckers core platform and its products
  • Build relationships with key members of other core business functions, such as marketing, development and commercial.
  • Lead requirements gathering sessions with stakeholders and manage change in relation to specified requirements, including assessment of impact, communication, and supporting planning and prioritisation as appropriate
  • Continuous improvement of the APIs, services, applications and products; identifying and prioritising improvements and enhancements based on your experience and input from your team.
  • Ensure development practices and quality is best-in-class, and confidence is created in the resilience and robustness of the deliverables.

So, what experience are we looking for?

A strong team player and whilst a keen interest in sports and the betting industry is not essential, it would be nice to have

Essential:

  • Experienced in gathering functional and non-functional requirements, producing API specifications and writing user/system stories
  • Knowledgeable about Agile methodologies, SDLC processes and previous exposure to Atlassian tools (JIRA/Confluence)
  • Previous experience in API, microservices and cloud environment as core architecture
  • Analytical minded - Comfortable in using tools like BigQuery, SQL Client, Kibana …
  • Strong knowledge of multiple technical areas: ability to understand cloud products, software scalability, security and technical debt
  • An ability to operate at many levels within an organisation
  • Experience working with an agile team, and of agile product development
  • Delivery focused with attention to quality; reliability, functionality and usability
  • A proven track record of strong technical delivery through multiple teams; defining and managing a strategic backlog
  • Ability to be flexible and organised with a product backlog and multiple inflight products, stories or feature developments
  • Motivated, passionate and proactive about delivery of value to the business and customer
  • Willingness to challenge the business when opportunities arise, and identify opportunities to innovate
